You may wish to have a cell phone while in Ireland to keep in touch with home; you can have your own cell phone unlocked and buy a pay-as-you-go SIM card if you wish. This will be an expensive option as will using your own phone using roaming. In emergencies, you can of course use Gaiety School of Acting phones and computers to get in touch with home but this cannot be relied upon for simply keeping in touch. Another option might be to purchase a prepaid calling card or to use an internet café/call shop of which there are many around the area.
If you bring your laptop you may want to use Skype (www.skype.com).
You are welcome to use the Gaiety School of Acting address if you are expecting any postal mail. Customs will be charged to you for any item over €150 in value. It will be expensive to ship home any large purchases you make while in Ireland so be aware of this too.
