Smock Alley Theatre – 1662

Smock Alley was the first Theatre Royal built in Dublin. John Ogilby opened it in 1662 as part of the Restoration of the British monarchy and King Charles II in 1660, along with the London’s Drury Lane (1662) and the Lincoln’s Inn Fields (1661). It was the first custom-built theatre in the city and still remains in substantially the same form, making it one of the most important sites in European theatre history. Their mission is to welcome audiences to Dublin’s oldest, newest theatre. Their policy is to provide an enjoyable, affordable, quality experience, challenging & engaging you, in a friendly, feel-good atmosphere.

Draiocht Arts Centre
Since 2001 Draíocht has reached right to the heart of the people it serves in Dublin 15 and its environs to provide stimulating and accessible arts programming including professional national and international work, local community drama, and children’s theatre and pantomime.

Iontas Arts Centre
Iontas Arts & Community Resource Centre in Castleblayney offers spacious conference facilities to all , a state of the art 310 seater theatre, community offices, a fantastic gallery space, a town library, a fitness suite, a restaurant, excellent childcare facilities and  commercial outlets. It is also the home of the Young Gaiety programme in Castleblayney.

Wexford Arts Centre
Wexford Arts Centre is a multi-disciplinary venue of professional arts practice and local cultural initiatives. It celebrates and fosters high quality creative and artistic experiences by commissioning and presenting art forms across disciplines.

Dunamaise Arts Centre
The Dunamaise Arts Centre aims to provide the people of Laois and the surrounding counties with access to the best in contemporary arts practice, both professional and community, in the performing and visual arts. Funded by the Arts Council, the centre presents work by leading local, national and international performance and visual artists.

Solstice Arts Centre
The Solstice Arts Centre develops and facilitates art form and project based programmes in new and responsive ways. All public space with the building is a place of activity, and the opportunity to create navigable choices for visitors to the centre. The 320 seat theatre space is the core of the performing arts in Meath. With 20 flying lines and the latest lighting and audio technology, the theatre can support the professional development of regional groups whilst producing a vibrant national and international performance programme.

The Source Arts Centre
The Source Arts Centre opened on 2nd October 2006 and is Ireland’s newest arts centre. It consists of a 250 seat auditorium with fully flexible seating, and a dedicated gallery space. A year round programme of events will include film, theatre, dance, ballet, opera, music, family events and visual art exhibitions. And alongside the professional events The Source will have a community and youth outreach programme.

Civic Theatre
The Civic Theatre, opened in March 1999, a project of South Dublin County Council and also grant aided by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands. It is managed by an independent limited company, under a tenancy and management agreement.

The Guthrie Theater

The Guthrie Theater, founded in 1963, is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training. By presenting both classical literature and new work from diverse cultures, the Guthrie illuminates the common humanity connecting Minnesota to the peoples of the world.

The New Theatre

The New Theatre provides an accessible, open and professionally-run venue for use by incoming companies. In selecting its own productions, The New Theatre explores new writing and new territory and seeks to present plays that relate to Ireland. At all times The New Theatre reaches out to young professionals in theatre, music and film and actively encourages them to become involved in front-of-house management, publicity, lighting or set design, writing and direction.

Theatre Companies

Fishamble Theatre Company

Fishamble focuses on the discovery, development and production of new dramatic works for the Irish and international stage. As well as developing and commissioning a range of innovative new writing, Fishamble provides training initiatives to serve artists’ needs, such as playwriting courses.

Corn Exchange Theatre Company

The Corn Exchange consists of a loose ensemble of players who practice the company’s exhilarating trademark style of Commedia dell’Arte, which encourages risk and champions precision through play.

Crazy Dog Audio Theatre

Founded by Roger Gregg in 1998, Crazy Dog Audio Theatre is a professional production company based in Dublin, Ireland. Crazy Dog regularly produces both studio-based and live radio theatre series for RTE Radio 1 (the National Broadcasting Company of Ireland). The company’s series are subsequently released on CD and aired by radio stations across the United States.

Drama Societies

NUIM Drama Society

NUIM Drama Soc are committed to variety in their productions, including classics, contemporary plays, ambitious new projects such as the Black Box Festival and the One Act Festivals (which encourage first-time participants) and colourful extravaganzas. They also have an excellent reputation for producing student-written work.

UCD Drama Society

An active drama society,  staging an average of 40 plays a year (two a day at 1pm and 7pm), hosting numerous workshops and participating in the annual ISDA Festival.

Shoot Audition

Shoot audition is a studio that has been set up to film video auditions and monologues. We film actors in front of our state of the art green screen and on our Panasonic HD camera. The cost of a video audition and monologue is €35.

Shoot audition also runs workshops in the lab every Monday from 6:30-9pm; the workshops cost €5 per class. In the workshops we run scenes, share ideas and film as much as we can.
