April 2008: Update on BA (Honours) Acting

We have just received confirmation from DCU that the BA (Honours) Acting is not going ahead this year as we had hoped. The BA (Honours) Acting had been planned in collaboration between DCU and the Gaiety School of Acting and a detailed funding model for this new programme was developed. Unfortunately at this time, the anticipated level of funding has not been secured.

We are incredibly disappointed that the Higher Education Authority (HEA) have not been able to fund this programme sufficiently; however, the Gaiety School of Acting will continue to offer its 2 Year Full Time programme as we have been for 22 years, so it will be business as usual here.

The first round of auditions for this course will be from 6th- 9th May  - other audition dates are being arranged (including dates for overseas applicants). There were almost 300 applications for 16 places through the CAO. We would expect a significant number of these applicants to apply for the 2 Year Full Time programme where there are just 20 places available. We therefore encourage those interested in applying to do so without delay.

We are hoping for a 2009 start to the BA (Honours) Acting, but cannot confirm this until HEA-DCU-GSA negotiations conclude.

If you have applied for the BA (Honours) Acting, please be aware that you can change your course preference using the change of mind form after the 1st May.

DCU will be in touch with each CAO applicant in writing to inform them of this.
