M.A. Theatre Practice
The M.A. Theatre Practice is offered by UCD in partnership with the Gaiety School of Acting.
The MA Theatre Practice is for highly motivated students who want to lead tomorrow’s theatre industry. The programme will offer a unique hybrid model of teaching and learning focusing on academic and practice-based modules and taught by academics at UCD and professional artistic experts and specialists in theatre practice at GSA.
The dynamic combination of conservatory and academia will provide students with an inspiring and challenging environment in which to research and experiment in practices of innovative theatre making. Students will have access to UCD’s full range of facilities and The GSA’s suite of studios is the centre-city location for practical workshops and for the presentation of student theatre pieces which will be showcased in GSA and Smock Alley Theatre 1662.
The course aims to create future leaders in the theatre industry who have an all-round skills base in theatre practice.
- Hybrid approach to teaching and learning through academic modules at UCD and practice-based modules in the Gaiety School of Acting
- Equips students to develop original conceptual ideas in theatre practice
- Clear career pathways through access to national and international theatre networks, and theatre producers and presenters
On graduation, students will have learned skills to create and produce original works of theatre; to think conceptually about theatre practices and research in drama and performance; and be equipped to work knowledgeably in multidisciplinary contexts in practice-based creative processes

Applications are invited from those who have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field or cognate discipline and who can evidence practical experience in any theatre and performance discipline. Accreditation of prior experience in lieu of academic qualifications will be considered.
Admission procedures: application, interview, performance workshop, writing sample.
Distance and International interviews will be accommodated.
