Simone Kirby (Class of 2000) star of ‘Jimmy’s Hall’ takes to the red carpet in Cannes 2014

Simone Kirby (Class of 2000) appears as the female lead in ‘Jimmy’s Hall’ which was recently nominated for a Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival 2014.
Award winning director Ken Loach returns to unearth the true story of 1930s folk hero James Gralton and his infamous dance hall. In the film, Simone plays Gralton’s ex Oonagh and their friendship is rekindled after he returns from exile in the USA after many years. The film is due to be released in Ireland in early June.
Simone Kirby graduated from the Gaiety School of Acting Full Time Acting Course in June 2000. She is probably best known for playing Geraldine Grehan in the RTÉ series Pure Mule. She also played Ophelia in Hamlet in 2005 and also appeared in Season of the Witch in 2011. On stage she appeared in The Tinker’s Wedding under Garry Hynes for the Druid Theatre Company’s Druidsynge for Galway Arts Festival, the Olympia Theatre, and King’s Theatre in Edinburgh and also portrayed Nuala in The Cavalcaders under Robin Lefevre and Lady Teasle in The School For Scandalunder Jimmy Fay at Dublin’s Abbey Theatre.
