Casting Call – Half a Glass of Water by David Ireland

New director Nicholas Sturman is directing an amateur production of David Ireland’s Half a Glass of Water in Smock Alley. The production is slated for September 1st and 2nd in the Smock Alley Boys’ School, but if the production does well, and there is interest by the cast and by an audience, there is a possibility to do an extended week long run another space such as the Pearse Centre Theatre.

Rehearsals will be August 18 – 29, Monday to Friday, with a Tech rehearsal and Cue to Cue on Sunday August 31st, and evening shows September 1st and 2nd. The pay is €550 per week with an additional €50 per show, totaling €1200 over the course of the production.

The show deals with sensitive topics such as mental illness, rape, abuse and child prostitution, which will be handled in a professional and courteous manner by all involved.

The production is looking to cast the following roles:

Whitney: Male, early 20s, scarred rape victim trying to find comfort and forgiveness in one of his abusers

Eli: Male, 40+, former child Rapist, Cancer victim, trying to move on and help Whitney heal from his trauma
