Actor’s Gift Guide
No idea what to buy the thespian in your life this Christmas? We’ve put together a handy gift guide that will not only put a smile on any actor’s face, but also many of the below will support the arts and local businesses – so everybody’s happy!
1. A Lovely Journal
Whether for audition preparation or reflecting on the development of their craft, actors always have a journal on the go. Make it a nice one and check out the gorgeous range available from our neighbours in The Gutter Bookshop. We particularly love this Theatre of Dreams one – for obvious reasons!
2. Abbey Calling
An early Christmas present of sorts, but who could resist a bespoke intimate performance from our National Theatre. The Abbey Theatre have teamed up with Aware to bring these private phone performances. Such a special treat for a theatre lover and a great way to support an incredible charity. The calls are donation based so you have the option to choose what you pay.
3. National Theatre Player
And from one national theatre to another across the water. London’s National have launched their National Theatre at Home Player and gift subscriptions start at €9.41 a month. We always recommend that actors see as much theatre as possible to help inform their own craft, so this is a fantastic gift idea!
4. Movie Extras Subscription
Our friends over at Movie Extras also offer subscriptions, with a year subscription costing €89.95. An ideal gift for any actor who is searching for practical on set experience.
5. Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival
One of our favourite festivals, the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival opens in March 2021, and a lovely stocking filler is a ticket bundle for just €30. Supporting the arts AND the chance to experience some quality new films this Spring? Everyone’s a winner!
6. Tripod and Filming Light
2020 has been the year of the Self Tape Audition, and we predict that this will continue long into the future. Any actor will be delighted with the gift of a tripod or ring light this Christmas. Check out the range available at Bermingham Cameras in Dublin City.
7. A Self Confidence Boost
Let’s face it, it’s been an odd year for performers with shows and filming being cancelled left, right and centre. Remind them you think they’re awesome with this lovely little book from April and the Bear.
8. A Private Online Class with the Gaiety School of Acting
A great way to upskill, get feedback or to prepare for an audition – a private class with a tutor of your choice at a time of your choice begins at €55. Start 2021 on the right foot!
