The Gaiety School of Acting – The National Theatre School of Ireland are delighted to announce a new one-day intensive media communications workshop with actor and writer Alan Shortt on Sunday 16th June from 10am – 5pm. The workshop will be held at Essex Street West, Temple Bar.

Alan Shortt has been working in radio and television in Ireland for the last twenty years, gaining wide experience from both behind and in front of the camera. He has worked as a presenter, performer, producer, and is currently a regular contributor on RTÉ Radio/TV and BBC Radio Ulster. As a live performer he has also learnt first hand, how to face the fear of standing up to speak in front of a live audience. Alan has been host and MC for various corporate conferences, private functions and awards ceremonies, and from this experience he has learned that many Chief Executives and professionals still face the fear of speaking in public. His most recent television appearances include ‘Irish Pictorial Weekly’ (RTÉ1) and as a finalist on ‘Celebrity Mastermind’ (TV3).

‘’Master the Media’’ is a brand new workshop that will teach participants how to maintain control of a media interview through focused preparation. Through this workshop, students can learn how to think on their feet and enhance their natural communication skills to help them deliver their message in a calm, confident and controlled manner. This day long workshop, aimed at company representatives, will simulate real interview situations – live radio, sound-bites for the evening news or in-depth newspaper features.

Director of The Gaiety School of Acting, Patrick Sutton commented ‘The Gaiety School of Acting has long been providing specialist workshops to help enrich confidence and creativity in people from every walk of life. Alan’s experience offers a refreshing and energetic approach to dealing with the media.’

Alan Shortt stated ‘I am delighted to be working with such an establishment like The Gaiety School of Acting. Media used to be only Papers, Radio and the TV, but now it’s on your laptop, your tablet, your phone, it’s in your hand. Through the ‘Master the Media’ workshop, I hope to remove the fear associated with dealing with the media and put you back in the driver’s seat.’
