Aidan Turns Up to Say Hello!

Last week there was a veritable buzz around the school that had a lot to do with the preparations for the forthcoming Graduation Showcase last Friday and admittedly, more than a little to do with the return of past pupil Aidan Turner. Anyone who has watched Aidan’s star rise over the past couple of years will know that he wasn’t coming back to his old stomping ground for refresher courses. From roles in Being Human to the Hobbit and most recently in BBC’s Poldark, Aidan has been doing The Gaiety School proud, not only winning acclaim but award; Aidan secured Best Male Newcomer at The Jameson Empire Awards in 2014. For an hour Aidan sat with The Gaiety School Director Patrick Sutton and the students from the programme that Aidan graduated from in 2004, offering a fascinating insight into the ups and downs of life after drama school. From detailing his struggle with periods of unemployment to living it up on the set of The Hobbit in New Zealand and regaling us with stories of his best and worst auditions, Aidan held his audience in rapture throughout – but, let’s face it, isn’t that what he does best?
