Fabio Aprile is a past student of our One Year Part Time course, Performance Theatre Company in Dublin. While a GSA student, he helped devise, promote and perform two shows, ‘HARK: Heaven, Hell and the Holidays’ and ‘The Big Big Space’, a radio play performed live in the GSA’s Black Box Studio. Fabio performed ‘LA Confidential’ in Dublin’s Mansion House as part of the Jameson Cult Film Festival and starred the Crazy Dog Audio’s short film ‘Sonnet 9 to Orpheus’.

  1. Did you always want to work in the theatre/acting business?

I always wanted to become an actor. I was always outgoing as a child, and whenever people came over I’d automatically do impressions of them as soon as they left. My love of performing goes way back. The stage has always been where I feel most at home.

2.How did you start off in the business?

I almost can’t remember….I guess you start out just taking classes, learning to perfect your craft. Then as you get older and immerse yourself more and more into the industry you meet people of like mind and hopefully get opportunities to work together. The best thing about acting is that I get to loose myself in another character – it’s fantastic.

3. Any tips for aspiring actors?

Perseverance. Never  loose faith in yourself. There are times when your career is hot and people want to see your work and there’s other times when people lose interest so you have to hang on to hope very tightly in this industry.

4.What did you like most about being at The Gaiety School of Acting?

The Gaiety offered me so many opportunities, most importantly the time and space to develop into the actor I am today, so, in a sense it allowed me to find myself. It gave me a better understanding of the business I was getting into and also allowed me to make contacts I never would have had the opportunity to make on my own.

5. Favorite actor?

Joe Pesci. His ability to play such extreme characters, from Comedies to Gruesome gangsters, is incredible.

6. Favourite writer?

Conor McPherson

7.Favourite play?

“The Seafarer”

8. Who has been the most influential person in your life so far?

Probably my mum – I’ve learnt most of my basic life lessons from her, how to work hard, be proud of what I do and have no regrets. Honestly, I’m very lucky that I have a few hugely influential people in my life and I pull different traits from them all.

9. Earliest memory?

Sitting in a car with my Dad listening to Van Morrison “Moondance”….I was probably going to one of my first days in school.

10. What would be your idea of the perfect day?

Probably the opening night of a new performance – the journey of the day, nerves, excitement, the butterflies at the 5 minute call – it’s days like that that are the reason I do this.
