It is with great sadness that members of the Board, staff and students of The Gaiety School of Acting learned of the death of esteemed patron Milo O’Shea. Mr O’Shea passed away in New York last night in hospital at the age of 86, after a short illness.

He is fondly remembered for his portrayal as Leopold Bloom in the 1967 film production of James Joyce’s’ ‘Ulysses’. He also featured in Neil Jordan’s ‘The Butcher Boy’ and US dramas ‘Frasier’ and ‘The West Wing’.

In 2007, he received an honorary doctorate from the University College Dublin. He is survived by his wife Kitty O’Sullivan, sons Colm and Steven and his three grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed.
