THE GIFT
A GRIFFITH COLLEGE SHORT
In The Gift, Waldo’s quiet birthday dinner with his family takes a turn when his aunt and uncle present him with an unexpected gift. As the moment unfolds, Waldo is overwhelmed with fear and dread, causing him to question the motives behind their seemingly thoughtful gesture.
WALDO (Late teens – early 20’s) — Scrawny. Has a hard time saying, “no.'” The experiences this has led to have made him more resolute.
KLEIN (Late teens – early 20’s) — Enthusiastic, excitable and curious. Eager to explore and touch the gift. Thinks Waldo is ungrateful for everything he receives.
AUNT SHEILA (40’s-50’s) — Graceful and well-dressed. In a tranquil state regardless of who is distressed and what is happening around her.
MARSHA (40’s-50’s) — Practical, open and observant. Mother to Waldo and Klein. Notices Waldo’s distress and tries to deescalate the situation.
UNCLE BILL (40’s-50’s) — Hard-working, emotionally tone-deaf, with a heart full of love for Waldo.
