About the project:
This project is a 3 part mini web mocumentary comedy series that revolves around a set of twins in their mid-twenties, one girl and one boy, who are rivals in a pathetic excuse for a local DJ contest set in a working class suburb of Dublin. The pair are followed around by a documentary crew in the days building up to and during the contest itself. Tensions arise throughout between the twins as they prepare to go head to head in a contest that they hope will launch their DJ’ing careers. Barry, a deluded, self absorbed, but talented DJ, clashes in personality with his more grounded and realistic sister, Anne. Having lost their parents at a young age, the twins were raised by their grandmother who in turn made Barry the favourite of the two, causing much of the friction between the twins. The mockumentary crew conduct interviews about the twins with old friends and fellow DJ contestants throughout. The mocumentary will be made in a style akin to RTE’s ‘Paths to Freedom’
Anne has always lived in the shadow of her brother. From an early age she was always second to everything. Like her brother, she was always enamoured with the idea of becoming a DJ with her grandmother giving her pocket money to support her interests in music. She is an excellent DJ and her favourite genre is trance. Anne works as a barista in a cafe in town trying to save money to leave home. She is quite embarrassed at the fact that she still lives at home. Like her brother, Anne is appalled by the ‘push play’ DJ’s that are all over the charts.
Her aspirations are practical and realistic from having been second fiddle for all of her upbringing – she feels the need to prove herself by beating Barry in the contest. She has better prospects for leaving the safety net of hey nanny’s home than her brother – which also drives her to take this contest far more seriously than she otherwise might.
Anne is a likeable and modest character. She is talented but frustrated at how she is treated compared to her egotistical and arrogant brother Barry.
