The actor is a creative artist. However, the actor’s working environment frequently involves interaction with a range of circumstances, artists and issues, which are not always compatible with the creative process. External factors including other actors, the director and the space can pose a challenge. In addition, the actor’s perception of self can impact negatively on reaching a truly creative state. Therefore, getting to this point is not an easy task.

Achieving and sustaining an effective and convincing acting style can be a difficult and challenging task, which few others experience. Some of the mean and techniques suggested to help the actor overcome the difficulties encountered could be counter productive and energy draining and ultimately not helpful.

Using techniques perfected by Michael Chekhov, the participant will come to realise the great joy and freedom of a creative process that taps into those age old resources of creative energy, resulting in a fulfilling communication with fellow actors, the audience and the participants inner self.

Using short dialogues, this course will explore Michael Chekhov tools and techniques thus revealing often hidden forces of creativity and feelings. Participants will work with Psychological Gesture, Atmosphere and Imagination. There will also be time for reflection and discussion as participants consider the scenes worked on and presented.

This course is ideal for actors, directors, dancers, singers and musicians. Come with an open mind and a willingness to try new ideas.
